Michigan Bowhunter's Opening Day Checklist

Opening day has a way of arriving faster than expected. One minute you are shooting in the backyard in July, and the next you are trying to remember whether your release is in the truck or hanging in the garage.

Start with the bow itself. Check your strings and cables, inspect your serving, verify your sight marks, and shoot enough arrows to know your setup is still exactly where you expect it to be.

Your hunting pack should be simple and organized. Carry your release, headlamp, rangefinder, safety gear, knife, wind checker, water, small first-aid kit, and whatever clothing layers make sense for the weather.

Confirm your access route before opening morning. Wind direction, parking location, noise, and how you enter the property can matter just as much as where the stand is hanging.

Finally, check the boring things. Batteries. License. Phone charge. Headlamp. Tree strap. Those are usually the things that become a problem when you are already twenty minutes from the truck.

Preparation does not guarantee a filled tag. It does mean you can focus on hunting instead of fixing problems that should have been handled at home.
